The holiday season can be a tough time to stay on budget. Don’t let the seasonal spending hubbub drain your savings or keep you from meeting your financial goals. Lucky for us, Levo League has compiled 4 simple financial tips to make sticking to your budget easier this season.
- Adopt a new mantra - Decide what your spending limits are and hold yourself accountable. Simple mantras can go a long way. For example, this year you’ll only make Christmas gifts for friends (gives you an excuse to obsess over Pinterest again).
- Make saving a no-brainer - Take the hard work out of saving. Sign up for a 401K through your employer or set up your own Roth IRA. Most banks will even let you set up an automatic savings withdrawal from your account.
- Pick a plan and stick to it - When you develop a plan to pay off a credit card or build up a savings account, follow it. Don’t let special events like the holidays blind your financial strategy.
-
Being Your Best Self - For me that's deciding to skip the chai latte and enjoy a hot cup of tea at home.
-
Spend on your best self - Think about long term goals to make short term decisions easier. If your ultimate goal is to go back to school, you’ll probably think differently about splurging on something you don’t really need.
To make things even easier Levo has recommended a few personal finance apps to help guide your budgeting.
Talking about your goals with like-minded people can also help you stay the course. Local Levo Charlotte recently hosted a Managing Your Finances workshop.
